Bachelor studies occupy the first to third years of studies. It is possible to study full-time or use the combined form of studies. During the first and second year of studies, students mostly take compulsory subjects, while during the third year they select certain subjects according to their interests. Bachelor studies are completed via a state bachelor examination during which the student passes examinations and defends his or her bachelor thesis in front of a committee. When the student successfully passes his or her state examination, he or she will receive the title of Bachelor at a graduation ceremony and can use this title (the Bc. abbreviation) in front of his or her name. After completing his or her bachelor studies, the graduates may continue their studies for a master’s degree, or they may leave and enter the job market.
